Volume I includes poems by D.F. Howard, who lived in Stella, Washington for many years and was known as "The Poet of the Cascades." It also features various stories from newspaper clippings and general information on local history, including cemeteries, the cigar rafts, the Little Ant locomotive, churches, ministers, post offices, Stella doctors, and more. This volume contains approximately seventy-nine recorded stories—many from early settlers of the area—as well as numerous historical photographs.
